    A photo of your agency ID, a recent paystub, a DD-214, or a letter from your department on letterhead. Email it to info@alabamalightwave.com, mail it, or walk it into our office at 38 Court Square West.

    Discount applies to every bill.

    We add it the same day we verify. Every month. No expiration. If you retire, change agencies, or move to a different qualifying role, the discount keeps going on the same terms.

Essential worker questions, answered straight.

  • Who counts as an essential worker?

    Law enforcement (police officers, sheriffs, deputies, jail and corrections), fire (paid and volunteer), EMS (EMTs and paramedics), 911 dispatchers, EMA staff, county coroners, nurses, clinical hospital and clinic staff, teachers and school staff K through 12, active-duty military and reservists, and veterans with a DD-214. If you wear a badge, take the call, or stand the watch, you qualify. If you're not sure, ask us.

  • How do I verify my role?

    Send a photo of your agency ID, a recent paystub from the qualifying employer, your DD-214 if you're a veteran, or a letter from your department on agency letterhead. Email it, mail it, or walk it into 38 Court Square West in Centreville. We confirm and add the discount to your account the same day.

  • Does the discount ever expire?

    No. As long as you're on Lightwave and still in the qualifying role, the discount applies every month, forever. We don't expire it after a year. We don't quietly raise the price two years in.

  • Does the discount apply to Lightwave TALK landline service?

    Yes. Verified essential workers get $5 per month off Lightwave TALK landline phone service. That is separate from the monthly discount on Lightwave internet plans.

  • Is the discount per-household or per-person?

    Per-household. If multiple essential workers share an address, the discount applies once to the account. But if your spouse or roommate qualifies, that's just as good as you qualifying. The bill comes down either way.

  • Does the discount stack with other promotions?

    Lightwave doesn't run teaser promotions, so there's usually nothing else to stack with. The essential worker discount comes off the top of every plan, every month, on top of our standard all-in pricing.

  • What happens if I retire from the qualifying role?

    Tell us when you retire and we'll switch you to retired-worker status. The discount continues at the same rate. A career of service still counts after the badge comes off.

  • Can I claim it for a family member who qualifies?

    Yes. If a member of your household qualifies, the discount applies to the household account. They don't have to be the person who pays the bill, or even the person whose name is on the account.

  • What if I change agencies or move to another qualifying role?

    Tell us and we'll update the file. The discount keeps going on the same terms. Same goes if you move to a different agency in a different town within our coverage area.
